Infinity Display

We just finished with the installation of our new Infinity display project that was installed in both the San Francisco and Scottsdale symphonies. In order to pull these displays together we made custom organically curved bases for the birch trees and lit them from below. We also created music stand shaped brochure holders, custom steel frames, and printed acrylic posters which were lit from inside the frames.

Mulberry USA

We are currently wrapping up a last minute design for five Mulberry USA stores across the nation. We are using our new artFORMULA to complete this project under the deadline and still come in under budget. I will post photos as soon as we are finished.

CPK

Above is a decent photo of the interior of the California Pizza Kitchen in Santa Barbara, CA. See all of those little square things on the wall in the background? Those are our shadow boxes filled with pizza box art. We have been making these for CPK ever since they came on the seen and now that they are going international, it looks like we will be making a lot more. Now we just need to figure out a way to get free pizza out of the deal.

Acrylic Adds Perceived Value To Your Product

For some reason our acrylic displays add an intangible perceived value to your products. Look at the photo above for example. Have you ever wanted a pocket sized pack of tissue paper so badly? I'm not sure if it the richness of the material itself, the way it is constructed, or the amazing way that it carries light, but one thing is for sure. Our acrylic displays an help make anything look sexier.

This Isn't A Display

I found this closeup of a huge sculpture Aaron made called "78"...Ok, that may or may not be it's name but it does have a name that is a two digit number between 40ish and 80ish. This detail shows where the thick piece of acrylic has been chipped, carved, and painted. This piece is pretty tall and would be almost intimidating if it wasn't covered with brightly colored flowers. Did I mention that we do custom painting, color matching, and frosting?

We made these fun acrylic screens for Tiger Jam X in Las Vegas. Tiger Jam is an annual event that benefits the Tiger Woods Foundation. These screens were made as dividers for the outside area in Mandalay Bay Casino.

Angel With a Broken Wing

We had a client bring in this intricately hand carved quartz angel wing that was bought from a church in central Mexico. The problem was that because of it's weight and shape it is difficult to display. We ended up coming up with a nice solution that shows the wing off while soundly securing it to an almost invisible base.

No Job Too Big

Here are a couple of larger displays that we designed to be shipped all over the US. We created these specially so that they could break down to reduce shipping costs. In the above photo, the rings are set up loosely in order to paint them. This is what they look like between the primer coat and the finished coat.

Acrylic Statue Display

This is a fun acrylic display we did for some Asian statues. The photo doesn't really do it justice, it is pretty impressive to look at with the solid acrylic shelves. If you have an important piece that you would like to display and protect please contact us and we will display it so that it can be enjoyed on an every day basis.

Museum Quality Artifact Display

This is a display we made for a museum to display some ancient artifacts. Part of the challenge when working with artwork is how to mount it securely without damaging the piece. We have come up with some fun and innovative ways in our 35 years building displays. It helps that we care too. Some display makers will glue pieces or use other harmful methods. We take the time to figure out the best way to mount your pieces. A little time spent here can save your artwork in the future.

Custom Art Displays

We started this business doing custom displays and framing. Along the way we have learned a lot. Among the things we have learned is that it is important not to cut corners with artwork. Even the matting you get from a lot of frame shops that is supposedly "acid free" or "archival quality" can leave expensive artwork forever damaged. We take amazing care with our framing and display work to showcase your art without damaging it at all. We will hand stitch a Kimono into a case if we need to so that it can be removed 100 years down the line without any damage. If you have a piece that you want protected we can apply a UV coat on the acrylic so that it will not fade. If you have something that you want to last for generations we can figure out a way to make that happen. Everything we do is museum quality and you will notice the difference.

Concepting

Believe it or not this is how most of our ideas start. We take established parameters from a client and then figure out what information we need, what the budget is, functionality, appearance, etc. In this case we needed to create circular links for a chain that could be repainted, taken apart when desired, easy to ship, and able to support weight without shifting. We typically have a brainstorming session in which tons of ideas are thrown at the problem and a solution is slowly mapped out. The interesting part about this project is that the client needed them in less than two weeks. We got it done ahead of schedule and beyond their expectations. The best part is that we also saved our client a bunch of money because these rings can be repainted and reused for different seasons.

Here are a couple of museum quality displays we designed and built for some vintage African game skulls. These were supposedly hunted in the 1940's and will be displayed in a world-renowned collector's private collection.

These are some custom displays we created for Infinity to use to show off some of the new design elements in their new vehicles. We designed these so that they showcase the parts like a fine piece of art. Each display includes reflective halogen lighting to show off the details of the designs.

Custom Displays

This blog will center around case studies for our custom display work at Aaron R. Thomas design. We will look carefully at our capabilities for custom designed retail, event, and trade show displays. My goal is to show how we arrive at a finished product by showing the entire process of how we work from concept to creation.
